Nickel based Alloys

KME also supplies its industrial customers with nickel based rolled products in the form of strips, sheets and discs.

Products made of nickel based alloy are highly resistant to erosion by cavitation, crevice and galvanic corrosion as well as stress corrosion cracking.

KME's manufacturing range of rolled products made of nickel based alloys includes alloys that are heavily used for the minting of coins (ex.: CuNi25 or Cu75Zn20Ni5, the first is used for the outer ring of the 2 Euro coin and the second is for the core of the 2 Euro coin and for the outer ring of the 1 Euro coin), as well as alloys used for other industrial uses.

FIELDS OF APPLICATION

Special nickel based alloys are widely used in shipbuilding, offshore installations and other industrial applications.

One of the applications that is closest to all our lives is the minting of coins: copper and nickel based alloys are the raw material for many coins in circulation, including the Euro. In fact, the outer ring of the 2 Euro coin is made with CuNi25, while the 1 Euro coin and the core of the 2 Euro coin is instead made with another nickel based alloy (Cu75Zn20Ni5) that has special electromagnetic properties.
