Copper and Aluminium based Alloys
Rolled products for industrial applications with excellent mechanical strength and corrosion resistance.
KME produces sheets and discs for many applications, including the minting of coins, as the 10, 20 and 50 Euro cent coins are made from a special Cu-Al alloy rolled product called Nordic Gold (CuAl5Zn55Sn1).

STRIPS FOR THE MINTING OF COINS
Copper-aluminium strips are the base material for the 10, 20 and 50 Euro cent coins. It is a special alloy (CuAl5Zn5Sn1), also called Nordic Gold because it's similar in colour to gold and because it was already used for the Swedish 10 corona coin. It was chosen for the new European coins because of its good minting characteristics, corrosion resistance, its matchless colour and its special electromagnetic properties that allow it to be perfectly recognized in vending machines.
