The KME LOCSA history
The Spanish LOCSA has been part of the KME Group since 1992.
- 1917
- The business now known as KME LOCSA was originally part of SECEM (Sociedad Española de Construcciones Electromecánicas SA), a manufacturer of copper products founded in the south of Spain in 1917, in the context of the copper mining activities in Riotinto (Huelva).
- 1978
- IN 1978, a merger of SECEM with Pradera Hermanos SA (established in 1838) and Eduardo K.L. Earle SA (established in 1917), resulted in the incorporation of Ibérica del Cobre SA (Ibercobre), a manufacturer of rolled product, tubes, rod and wire rod, with head offices in Madrid and manufacturing plant in Cordoba and the Basque Country (Zaratamo, Oviedo and Lejona).
- 1987
- IN 1987, the Finnish company Outokumpu bought a 21% share of Ibercobre, increased its holding to 75% in 1989 and finally 100% at the end of 1991. The business was restructured and renamed Outokumpu Copper SA with internal divisions Outokumpu Copper Tubes SA (plant in Zaratamo), Outokumpu Copper Brass Rods SA and Outokumpu Copper Rolled Products SA (plants in Cordoba and Oviedo).
- 1992
- In 1992, the SMI Group (now KME Group SA) constituted a 50-50 joint venture with Outokumpu regarding the Spanish rolled products business: the new company was called LOCSA - Laminados Oviedo Cordoba S.A.
- 2004
- IN 2004, after significant investment in renovating the Cordoba plant and the closure of the Lugones plant, LOCSA became a wholly owned subsidiary of KME Group, under the aegis of KME Spain S.A., the Group’s financial holding and sales company in Spain.
- 2007
- In May 2007, LOCSA changed its business name to KME LOCSA to highlight its full integration into the Group.
